August 29, 2001

Attendees:  Brad McVicker, Joe Gordon, Ron Peterson, Dan & Diane Turcovsky, Denny & Sandy Beecher, Lois Keegan, Nelda Donley,  Bert Sharbaugh.  Donna Bender was present and served as hostess.

BMM (Board Meeting Menu):  McVicker’s Mexican Madness, Donna’s Crazy Crab Crisps, Nelda’s you’re-gonna-love-it-in-Perpetutity Banana Bread (which I did not get a piece of, by the way) and assorted drinks.

New Member applications were reviewed for Clyde Mighells, certified 09/99 NAUI, and Patrick Donley, certified 07/01 with Maurer Dive Shop.  Nicole Walker was approved for membership after completing two dives with members on the Niagra River trip.  Brad McVicker will send welcome letters.

The board has been made aware that a committee needs to form to discuss improvements for scuba divers at Raystown Lake.  Ron Peterson and Denny Beecher will represent Laurel Divers and Bert Sharbaugh will represent Maurer Dive Shop.

A pontoon boat will be rented for the Raystown Picnic on September 16th.
Dan Turcovsky will conduct CPR classes on Sept. 22, at 8:30 a.m., Maurer Dive Shop.
Christmas Party is set for December 1, 6p.m.  Two Laurel Diver mugs and a pair of trident scissors is on the prize list to date.

Nelda Donley presented the treasurer’s report.  Income:  $909.00, Expenses:  $923.33, balance $2753.93.

OLD BUSINESS

Quarry releases need to be signed for 2001.  Anyone who has not signed one, please do so.
Liability Release are available for those who have not signed this year.

DUES  - Club dues are due by the July meeting – July 5, 2001.
Single or first member $24
Second member  $16
Third and forth member  $8
**We will continue to pro-rate dues for those members joining mid year
If dues are not paid by September 5th, you will be dropped from the mailing list.

A vote was taken and our new Board Member is Susie Feighner.  Welcome aboard!

September 11, Morris Tavern, Sidman.  Crab night at 6p.m.  All are welcome.
September 16, Raystown Picnic, Oak Pavilion at Seven Points Marina.  First boat out is at
8a.m.  There is also a 1p.m. boat.  Club will provide hamburgers and hot dogs.  Bring a covered dish.

September 18, 2001 – Quarry Cleanup. 6p.m.  Bring your week-whackers, lawn mowers, rakes, and elbow grease.  Come and help keep the quarry beautiful.  Any help is appreciated.  Rain date:  September 19, 2001.

September 29 – 30 – “This Bud’s for You” - Warrior’s Mark family camping weekend.  We were informed that Bud has recently had surgery and he is doing well, but the camping weekend will be rescheduled/postponed until further notice. Contact Bud Colyer (814 944-5248)

September 29, 2001 – Dive Rite Demo Day at Dutch Springs, PA

October 13, 2001, 2p.m. – Dive In at the Blue Hole Quarry
The Dive-Ins are open to all newly certified divers and club members.
Come out and spend an enjoyable afternoon diving and making new friends.  Bring your buddy or dive with a group.  Do a tour of the quarry, feed the fish and bring a picnic lunch and some lawn chairs

October 17, 2001, Halloween Haunted House Run.  6p.m.  Ron & Lois’s, 204 Plank Road, Ebensburg

October 27th, Halloween Dive and Chili Cook-off at the Blue Hole Quarry
$5 registration – register the day of the dive.  $100 gift certificate at Maurer Dive Shop.  Dive at 1p.m. until 5p.m.  Chili cook-off to follow.  Bring your favorite pot of chili and enter.  All others, bring a covered dish.

December 1, Laurel Divers Christmas Party, Penn Gables
Menu:  Stuffed chicken breast $12.75, stuffed pork chop $12.75, lasagna $12.75, baked haddock $15.50, all meals include baked potato, corn and desert.

Dec. 2-9, 2001 – Cozumel.  Approximately $1200 for 7days/air/meals/5day 2-tank boat dives.
(7) nights, (5) days of two-tank boat diving plus unlimited day or night shore diving.  All meals are included.  Cost:  $705 per person (double occupancy) with our 10% discount. Flight from Pittsburgh International from $628 to $650 per person.  Passport or birth certificate with raised seal and photo id are required.  Call Dee Montgomery for more details 814 944-8521.

January 18-23, 2002 – Crystal River/Florida Springs.  More details to follow.

June 28, 29, 30, 2002, Moorhead City, $255 for three days of two-tank boat diving.  $100 deposit for diving due by February 1st.  Jim Smith (696-1938)

2003 – Nekton Pilot – still in the planning stages

NEED EQUIPMENT?  Bob and Rose are running a special for the Dive-In’s - $25 for the day.  Let them know early to get your equipment reserved.

NEW BUSINESS

TRIP REPORTS

Niagra River Trip – new Laurel Diver member,  Nicole Walker spoke regarding the Lake Erie and Niagra River trip.  A two-tank boat dive was taken on the wrecks of Lake Erie, followed by two drift dives on the Niagra River.  Water, weather and company was great.  The group camped at the Grand Island KOA for the weekend.

Mt. Storm – Greg Lilly reported warm, dark and murky water at Mt. Storm.  Approximately 15’ vis.

Bonaire – Dan Kelly reported on the trip to Bonaire.  5-1/2 days of diving, staying at Captain Don’s Habitat, 150’ vis.  Dan will have a picture presentation at a later meeting.

OTHER BUSINESS

The audit committee reported on the audit of the treasury.  Ron Peterson gave the report.  The committee gave a satisfactory report on the books, with a suggestion to reconcile the checkbook monthly.

Bob Maurer introduced our new Dive Con – Chuck Zupon.  Congratulations Chuck!
